Saros Zenith Update Is Live With Boss Rush and New Game+
The Saros Zenith update is live on PS5 with Overlord Rush, Eclipse Layers and new control options. Check the version notes before returning to Carcosa.

Saros Zenith update arrived on October 19
The Saros Zenith update arrived on PS5 on October 19, 2026. Housemarque design lead Abebe Tinari confirmed the release on PlayStation Blog, with no extra charge for owners. The developer's own release notice corroborates that date. These are statements of current availability, rather than an earlier plan awaiting confirmation.
The changes address different reasons to return: a focused boss challenge, progression after finishing the campaign and additional control options. Choose the part relevant to your situation before assuming a returning player's next session should look like their previous one.
Overlord Rush gives bosses their own challenge
The new Overlord Rush mode is entered through the Primary Unit in Passage. Tinari describes Incursion and Ascension sets containing three Overlords each, plus Totality, which chains all eight. Its leaderboards allow results to be filtered by main weapon; using the online rankings requires an internet connection and a PlayStation account.
That offers a more specific goal than simply starting another full playthrough. A player interested in one weapon can choose a comparison relevant to that weapon. A leaderboard entry still reflects the game's scoring rules and the conditions of a run; it should not become a claim about overall ability across unrelated modes.
Eclipse Layers begin after clearing the game
Eclipse Layers is the update's New Game+ structure. Housemarque's launch notes say it becomes accessible after clearing Saros, with later layers requiring more Trial Modifiers. The same notes list twenty new Carcosan Modifiers, divided evenly between Protections and Trials, with half available on the initial playthrough and half unlocked through Eclipse Layers.
For someone still working through the campaign, that progression requirement matters more than a headline promising New Game+. The additional mode is a later option, not the mandatory starting point for a new player. For a returning player, the practical decision is which combination of rules makes the next attempt interesting, rather than adding every available challenge without reading it.
New controls change particular parts of combat
Zenith adds Slow Game Speed and weapon auto-fire. Tinari explains that auto-fire operates when aiming at a hostile but does not automate reloading. Housemarque's notes also list Motion Sensor Aiming and High Contrast Display, which can highlight the player and hostiles with colors or outlines.
These are choices about different actions and information. A player who wants more time to read incoming attacks is asking a different question from someone who finds sustained trigger holding difficult. Read the individual option, then decide whether it addresses the task you want to change. The announcement does not establish one universally suitable configuration.
Check the update notes before resuming a Cycle
Housemarque's Patch 02.000.000 notes warn that updating ends the current Cycle and returns the player to Passage. A separate Patch 02.000.001 page, updated October 19, lists adjustments to Overdrive charging and Time Bonus thresholds in Overlord Rush, plus fixes involving Modifier selection and invisible lucenite.
Before interpreting an older score comparison or setup description, check which build it describes. A changed bonus threshold can matter to the comparison even when the mode has the same name. The launch patch's number should therefore identify those notes, without being mistaken for a claim that no subsequent patch exists.
Pick a first return that answers one question
Our suggestion is to decide what you want from the next session: revisit a boss set, explore the post-campaign structure or inspect a control option. Keep that choice small enough to evaluate. This is editorial planning advice based on the documented additions; we have not benchmarked the update, completed its new challenges or tested these options with different players.
The sources were checked on October 20. The developer describes Zenith as an update for existing owners, with no expiry window stated in the announcement. For the base game, consult the current store for your account's region. Its purchase conditions and optional editions remain separate from receiving the owner update.
