Selective Game Installation: Keep the Modes You Actually Play
Use selective game installation to manage campaign and multiplayer components, read console storage options and check the mode you plan to play.

Choose an activity before choosing files
Selective game installation can retain the parts you use when a title supports managing its components. Begin with an activity: continuing a campaign, joining multiplayer or returning to an expansion. Then identify what that activity requires. A familiar game tile and a large storage total provide little detail about the components underneath.
This comparison uses English official support checked October 28, 2026, including US PlayStation and Activision guidance. These are established installation arrangements. The useful decision is which playable activity to preserve and which documented components can be removed without losing it.
On PS5, look for the conditional Customize option
Sony directs PS5 users to Games and Apps inside Console Storage in the Storage settings. When Customize appears beside a game's title, portions can be managed separately. Sony gives unused add-ons and completed parts as examples of data that can be removed while the rest remains playable.
The visible option is the starting evidence. If your title lacks it, that page supplies no promise of the same flexibility. Read the component labels before selecting anything, especially when several similarly named editions appear in the library.
Call of Duty recommends managing modes inside the game
Activision's content-management article, dated November 2025, recommends Call of Duty's own system when uninstalling whole games or modes. Its route begins with Manage Files in the menu and offers management, installation or removal through the available tiles. Using the platform's file manager can produce different behavior, with files handled individually.
That recommendation matters when a mode name is clearer than the files beneath it. Start with the publisher's supported route and read its current choices. A generic guide does not establish identical component names across every Call of Duty release.
Halo Infinite separates the menu from the component
Halo Support dates the separation of Campaign and Multiplayer shared assets to Season 4 in June 2023. Campaign still appears inside Halo Infinite's Play tab; separate underlying files did not make it a separate library game. Its Manage Game menu is reached through Multiplayer's Control Panel, where supported components include Campaign, language packs and the HD texture pack.
The installation guide covers Xbox One and Series X|S as well as PC. It distinguishes the paid Campaign listing from multiplayer. Installing files does not supply that campaign entitlement. For a purchased campaign missing in-game, support recommends checking updates and the signed-in Gamertag.
Compare space saved with the next planned session
Consider a fictional household planning multiplayer tonight and a story chapter this weekend. Removing a completed campaign component might suit one player, yet create a later download for another. Put each person's next activity beside the component it needs before optimizing for the largest removable item.
Use the console's current storage figures and the game's own descriptions. Historical installation sizes cannot establish today's saving, and a package's label alone cannot reveal all dependencies. If the supported manager leaves a dependency unclear, keep it while checking the title's documentation. This exercise makes the tradeoff explicit without prescribing one permanent installation.
Finish by checking the retained mode
After a change, allow pending installation work to complete and open the activity you intended to retain. Halo's campaign instructions specifically end by returning to the main menu to verify installation. For your own check, record the selected mode and any missing-content message; reaching an opening launcher answers a smaller question.
Keep software components distinct from saved progress: Sony documents saved-data management separately from game storage. Treat recovery, offline licensing and online membership as their own checks when relevant. The outcome here is a deliberate set of installed activities, with any required later downloads understood before the next session.
