Console Demo Save Transfer: Progress, Skips and Bonuses
Understand console demo save transfer through Octopath Traveler 0 and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: continued progress, chapter skips, bonuses and import checks.

Give the transfer promise a specific meaning
Console demo save transfer can describe different outcomes. One game continues a saved adventure; another recognizes completion so you can skip a sequence; another grants a reward for having demo data. Before investing time in a trial, identify which result the publisher actually promises.
Octopath Traveler 0 and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth provide established examples of that distinction. We checked their official guidance on October 21, 2026. The examples concern documented PlayStation versions, rather than demos newly released today or a test we performed. Their rules help turn a vague carryover claim into an expectation you can verify.
Octopath Traveler 0 illustrates continued progress
Square Enix's November 11, 2025 PlayStation Blog article describes the Octopath Traveler 0 demo for PS4 and PS5. It includes the opening prologue and first chapters of several story arcs, ending when its content boundary or three-hour limit is reached. The publisher explicitly confirms that progress carries into the full game.
That is a continuation promise. If you are deciding whether to spend an evening on the demo, the useful question is which saved journey you want to preserve. Try the systems that interest you, then keep track of the file you intend to continue. Replaying an opening to make different choices serves a different purpose from preparing that particular continuation.
Rebirth separates a skip from levels and items
Square Enix's Rebirth support answer explicitly excludes transferring demo levels and items. Completing the Nibelheim episode instead enables a portion of the full game to be skipped. The same answer explains that demo data can qualify for bonus items, checked through the full game's title-screen Bonuses option.
These are separate benefits. A recognized completion flag can save replay time while leaving the main game's progression rules intact. A reward confirms eligibility for that reward. Neither result, by itself, means that everything collected during the trial becomes part of the full-game inventory. Decide whether you want practice, a completion benefit or a continuing file before extending the session.
Match the instructions to the version you used
The publisher's February 2024 Rebirth demo guide describes PS5 save data and instructs players to apply the latest update for bonuses and the Nibelheim skip. It also explains that the Junon sample was deliberately condensed. A demo can therefore be a tailored selection rather than an unchanged stretch of the finished adventure.
Write down the demo's full name, platform and user profile, then locate the instructions for your intended full-game version. If those instructions do not establish a move between two platforms or editions, leave that question open. A similarly named download or a second console in the household does not supply the missing compatibility statement.
Plan the first full-game launch around one expected result
Consider a hypothetical note with three fields: demo file, promised result and confirmation. For a continuation, confirmation means reaching the expected saved state. For a skip, look for the stated option when the appropriate sequence arrives. For a bonus, check the reward route. Use only the row that matches the publisher's instructions for that title.
This small record prevents a misleading success test. Seeing a bonus notification answers the bonus question; it does not settle where the campaign will resume. Likewise, starting a new game successfully does not show that an import happened. Check the promised transition before spending another long session on an assumption.
Preserve the useful file and close the loop
Keep the demo save you intend to use until you have confirmed the transition in the full game. If the expected result is missing, compare the exact demo, target version and published steps before changing files. Record any message and which step produced it so a support question describes the actual mismatch.
These are proposed preparation habits, not a universal import procedure. The central check remains simple: name what should carry forward, then verify that particular result. Once it is confirmed, continue the adventure with a clear understanding of which progress, shortcut or reward came from your time with the demo.
