DELTARUNE’s First Two Chapters Are Still Free to Try

The official DELTARUNE site still offers Chapters 1 and 2 free. Check supported demo platforms and distinguish that download from the paid game.

What is free today

DELTARUNE’s official website continues to label the Chapters 1 and 2 demo as available for free, and the developer’s Steam listing offers a demo download. We checked those sources on October 16, 2026. This is a dated availability report about an existing offer, not a newly announced giveaway. The two chapters provide a starting point for the game while later chapters belong to the paid release. Do not confuse a free demo with the entire game becoming free to own.

The story and battle format

The developer describes DELTARUNE as a story parallel to UNDERTALE, with a party of characters and battles that combine choices with bullet-dodging sequences. The official site highlights music, pixel animation and chapter-based progression. Those are publisher descriptions rather than our own review or promise about how a reader will enjoy it. A demo lets you make that judgment directly. If you prefer to avoid spoilers, start with the official download rather than searching for explanations of later chapters or hidden encounters.

Check the supported demo platform

The official FAQ, updated June 24, 2026, lists the demo for PC, Mac, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, with the latter console versions playable on their respective successors. The full release has a broader native platform list. Those are different lists, so a search for a dedicated successor-console demo can be confusing. Follow the developer’s platform guidance and your regional store. Store availability, device compatibility and account requirements should be checked where you download, rather than inferred from a screenshot of somebody else’s library.

A changed Switch listing can cause confusion

The FAQ explains that the Nintendo Switch demo moved from its own store page to the full game’s page in May 2025. It distinguishes older and newer demo listings while describing their content as the same. That means a paid full-game page can still be the route to a free demo; the presence of a price does not, on its own, tell you which download option you have selected. Read the item name and checkout screen carefully. There is no reason to buy a bundle simply to locate the demo.

Later updates do not make the base purchase optional

The current official site describes five available chapters and more planned as free updates. That promise concerns updates to the paid game, while the free starting point remains Chapters 1 and 2. Our report does not attach a made-up deadline or claim that a full-game purchase is temporarily free. We also do not claim a verified offer in every regional store. If a local listing differs, use the developer’s support route and check the exact edition before drawing a conclusion about price or access.

Start from the official route

Our suggestion is to choose the demo, check system requirements and begin without a walkthrough. Judge whether the dialogue, exploration and battle controls suit you before considering a purchase. Keep save-transfer questions separate from price questions, since the FAQ documents platform-specific details. DELTARUNE is an external downloadable game, not one of ProjectGAMR’s browser games, and it may require a store account or installed client.
